Industrial prices rose by 0.9% in the A.C. of the Basque Country in June 2008, according to EUSTAT data. With these data, the inter-annual rate for June, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, showed growth to be 5.9%.
A more detailed sectorial analysis shows that the most inflationary branches in June 2008, with regard to the previous month were “Oil Refining” (4.0%), “”Metallurgy and Metal Articles” (1.1%), “Paper, Printing and Graphic Arts” (1.0%) and “Food Industry” (0.9% ), among others. On the other hand, the sectors whose prices fell most or with the smallest increases were “Leather Industry and Footwear” (-1.4%), “Electricity, Gas and Water” (-0.4%) and “Metallic and Non-metallic Minerals” (-0.1% ).
Over the year-on-year period June 2008 on June 2007, the highest growth in prices was registered by the branches of “Oil Refining" (18.9%) “Metal and Non-Metal Minerals” (15.2%), “Electricity, Gas and Water” (11.9%), “Electricity, Gas and Water” (11.9%), “Food Industry” (7.2%) and Other Manufacturers” (6.2%) . However, the lowest growth in prices was recorded in the following sectors: “”Leather Industry and Footwear" " (1.3%), “Transport”(1.5%), "Paper, Printing and Graphic Arts"(1.7%), "Timber Industry" (2.4% ) and "Machinery” (2.5% ).
Following the classification of Goods by economic destination, the prices in nearly all the large sectorial groups rose in June: the price of Energy rose by 2.0%, Intermediary Goods by 0.9% and the prices of Capital Goods were up by 0.4%. The Consumer Goods overall increased by 0.4%, as the result of the increase in Durable Consumer Goods (0.6%), while Non-Durable Consumer Goods fell by 0.2%.
The price evolution of these large groups of goods reveals differences over the inter-annual period. Energy prices increased by 15.8%, Intermediary Goods by 4.2%, Capital Goods were up 2.8% and Consumer Goods registered a 4.9% increase. Among the latter, the prices of Non-Durable Consumer Goods rose 5.8% while Durable Consumer Goods were up by 2.9%.
